Art Psychotherapy (Art Therapy) is a very safe and contained way of working through difficult and painful issues, at your own pace. You do not need any skill in art to undertake Art Therapy. Art making allows you to express yourself giving you and the therapist clues as to what the sub-conscious mind is holding onto. Art Therapy is wonderful for children and adults, as it is not reliant on verbal communication. As an experienced Art Therapist, I will help you to freely express yourself using art. I will work with you to begin to process and make sense of the thoughts and feelings that you are experiencing. Your relationship with me as your therapist and with the art materials will give you a way of communicating, as you safely express and explore your inner world. You may use iPads and digital art making if you prefer as part of the therapy. I am trained in EDMR and can offer this as part of a therapy plan.
I have been working as an Art Psychotherapist (Art Therapist) for the last 17 years in Child and Adolescent Mental Health teams (CAMH's) within the NHS, Women's Aid (refuges and outreach centres), community projects, local authority teams, schools and as a private practitioner. My clients include children, adults and families who have lived with the following: adoption, fostering, self-harm, drug abuse, addiction, domestic violence, sexual emotional and physical abuse, trauma, loss and bereavement and relationship problems. I have also worked with Autistic and Asperger children and adults. I am trained in EMDR by an EMDR Europe authorised training and am qualified to use EMDR techniques during therapy. I also provided a Supervision Service for other therapists. I am a member of the British Association of Art Therapists, a BAAT & IATE registered supervisor and a registered member of the Health Professionals Council.
I undertake regular clinical supervision and continual professional development and have completed many training hours on working with the effects of trauma. I am committed to a trauma-informed approach to art therapy having experience of working with many clients who have lived with physical and or sexual trauma. I am certified to practice Guided Drawing - a Sensorimotor Approach-based neuroscience recommendations. I use psychoeducation to inform clients about the effects of trauma and how best to recover.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art in 1988, I trained as a teacher in London and have worked in educational settings for over 30 years. In 1993 I went to Botswana, Africa where I lived for 10 years, teaching and exhibiting as an artist. I returned to the UK in 2003 and trained as an Art Psychotherapist at Goldsmiths College, London University. The training lasted 3 years and resulted in a Master's Degree in Art Psychotherapy. Throughout training I was required to be in my own therapy.
