Gemma Spence

Mindfulness Based Psychotherapist

Hello and welcome. People often come to therapy when life feels overwhelming, when change is happening, or when familiar patterns keep pulling them into places of difficulty. Sometimes emotions feel too much to hold alone, or we sense that something within us is wanting to be heard. Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, but with the right support it can become a gentle and nourishing process.

About me

I am a senior trainee in Core Process Psychotherapy, a mindfulness-based and relational approach that brings kind attention to your thoughts, emotions, and bodily experience. Core Process rests on the understanding that we are already whole at our core. Through slowing down and attuning to your moment-to-moment experience, space opens for awareness to grow around the patterns and meanings that shape your life.

My approach

I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever feels important. My approach is not about techniques or fixing, but about meeting your experience with curiosity and compassion. This allows us to understand the protective strategies and beliefs that once helped you survive but may now limit your sense of connection, ease, or freedom.

I work with adults and welcome a range of issues, with particular interest in anxiety, depression, grief, health challenges, the impact of dementia, attachment and relationship patterns, addictive behaviours, and concerns around food and body image. You may also simply feel that something in your life needs attention or change, even if you’re not yet sure what that is.

The therapeutic relationship is central to this work. As trust grows, the space we create together becomes a place where deeper layers of your experience can be met and gently integrated at a pace that feels right for you.

I offer both short- and long-term therapy. Sessions take place weekly and last one hour. I offer a free 30-minute introductory conversation so we can get a sense of how it feels to talk together and whether this approach may support you. If something in you is curious about beginning, I warmly welcome you to get in touch.
