About me

I am a White cisgendered male, who identifies as gay, British European and whilst clearly middle class with working-class roots in London.

I’ve had a very varied career working in a range of contexts and roles supporting people of all ages through different life challenges and difficulties. I previously worked as a youth and community worker, setting up one of the first LGB youth groups back in 1994. In 2000 was able to do a year of international voluntary service working with street children in Mexico and years later I qualified as a social worker and worked for many years with children and families in local authority child protection. I have been able to develop a career as a Systemic Family Therapist within Local Authority Children's Services and now manage a clinical team of therapists who support frontline practitioners.

My approach

After ten years experience working as a systemic family therapist and clinical supervisor, I understand that what is most important to begin with is helping people to feel comfortable and creating a relationship and context with them. My hope is that I can do this in a way that helps you to begin to look at and face your challenges and hopes for change. I will always want to understand the context of your life and how you hope therapy will help and create change.

My primary modality of psychotherapy is systemic however I draw on a number of different approaches, which I have developed and integrated into my practice. I believe that therapy is not a one-size fits all approach and expect to adapt to fit the needs and style of the family, couple or individual I work with.

I use several therapeutic models or approaches which have required further post-qualifying training including Emotionally Focused Therapy (with couples, families and individuals), Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
