Person Centred Counsellor
Are you navigating complex feelings, significant life changes, or a sense that something needs to shift? I'm John, a Person-Centred Counsellor dedicated to offering a creative, relational space where you can feel truly heard, understood, and supported. With 25 years of experience working alongside children, young people, and adults from all walks of life, my practice is grounded in deep empathy, genuine presence, and unwavering respect for your unique life experience.
My Approach: Honoring Your Unique Way of Being
My core belief is that everyone has an innate capacity for growth and healing, and my role is to create the conditions for that to unfold. I offer a calm, creative, and non-judgemental space to explore whatever feels most present for you. This means I don't focus on labels or diagnoses; instead, we'll gently delve into who you are and how your individual needs can be truly met.
I know that talking is often the primary way we work together. However, I also recognise that sometimes words aren't enough, especially when navigating complex emotions or past experiences. That's why, at times, and particularly with some client groups, I might invite the use of creative and expressive methods like drawing, storytelling, music, or movement. These are simply different pathways to help you express feelings and experiences that might be hard to voice, always at your pace and as you feel comfortable.
My ongoing work in primary school settings, providing arts and play-based therapy to children who often have experiences of neurodiversity and significant trauma, continually deepens my understanding of emotional expression and relational safety—insights that profoundly enrich my work with adult and young clients too. I approach every individual with a trauma-informed lens, working carefully at a pace that feels safe for you.
Online Therapy: Accessible Support
Online therapy allows you to access these sessions from the comfort and familiarity of your own space, wherever you are. Whether you're seeking support with a specific issue or want to explore your inner world more deeply, I offer a warm, consistent, and down-to-earth presence.
Your First Step: A Free Consultation
It can certainly feel daunting to choose a therapist. I understand this, which is why I offer a free 30-minute initial meeting. This is simply a chance for you to decide if I'm the right therapist for you, and for you to find out how a person-centred approach might work for you. There's absolutely no pressure to book further sessions or explain your decision afterward.
